Story line

Our film 'Escapism' is about abuse in the family home. Although this fits with common features of a coming of age film such as a young person overcoming obstacles, it challenges traditional coming of age methods as most films in this genre don't include abuse. In the film our victim is forced to overcome the threat of his father which is common in coming of age films, however is portrayed in a more serious manner, whereas in films like 'Ferris Buellar's Day Off', there is a less serious tone to it.

Sound

We chose to use sad, low beat music in our opening sequence, which is different to usual coming of age films as the soundtracks are usually loud and upbeat to signal the start of something good such as a teenager bunking off school in 'Ferris Buellar's Day Off'. Our actors also used sound effects which was different to traditional methods and added realism to the opening.
